Just discovered this Mulberry scarf and Emma Cook silk shorts on my weekly Net-a-Porter sweep and had to share. I've included a close-up of the neon-flower-and-woodland-animal scarf print- aren't the colors to die for? I'd love to see this with a cropped khaki trench or anorak.

Silk shorts are one of my must-haves for spring and are an easy transition piece- just add over-the-knee socks and voilà, instant chic. A shirt always helps too.

I'm sure this isn't the only 'Spring Essentials' post I'll be doing seeing as a plethora of really cool trends are on the horizon for Spring 2011- does anyone have a trend they can't wait to try out?

They've already started catching on out west, but feather hair extensions (yeah, you heard right) are still a relatively new phenom in the northeast. I just discovered the amazingness that is these extensions a few weeks ago via this website, owned and operated by the fab Dakota.

These extensions come in a ton of colors- I picked pink, lavender and turquoise and put in the pink feather bundle yesterday. They're super easy to put in (Dakota has a vid on the website) and can last anywhere from 1 to 4 months! They can also be washed, blow-dried and straightened.

Picked up these cute bow hairpins at Forever21 yesterday for $1.50 and I can't wait to wear them when it gets warmer! I'm dying to pair these with a drapey white blouse and red lip.

I'm probably expressing my attraction to bows now at the age of 20 because I didn't seem to have many bow-adorned hair accessories when I was little. From an early age, my mom dressed me in Gap Kids to repel every masculine glance shot my way, and boy, was it effective until about 4 years ago.

After seeing how Mandy totally rocked these shorts (ie: discovering that it is possible to wear these without looking like you're wearing a knit diaper) I had my heart set on a pair, but sadly they're now impossible to find :( boo! Anyway, I figured my next best bet would be to actually make a pair. The originals are made with a merino/ mohair blend but I'm thinking cashmere. Hey, it gets chilly up here!

I went to NYC for New Years and had alot of fun. It wasn't very cold which was awesome but the streets and sidewalks were super slushy. The only pair of shoes I brought were my Frye engineer boots and they were perfect.

For New Years I wore a Ralph Lauren striped shirt, Seven for all Mankind Gummy Gwenevere leggings in Olive, my wool Badgley Mischka scarf and added a J.Crew necklace for bling factor.

For dinner on NYE we went to this awesome Asian Fusion restaurant on the Upper West Side called Amber. I got the sangria duck (pictured above) and it was amazing/the best thing ever. They also have reallllly good sushi and miso soup.

My boyfriend and I ambled around the city for a bit on NYE and got a chance to check out the windows at Bergdorf Goodman- they really pulled out all the stops this year. The sequined maritime suit was my fave.

I got super bored today on account of being snowed into my house. Luckily, it is during times like these when creativity seems to strike. I decided to make a statement necklace from some fabric with a totally tubular print, vintage necklaces and broaches and some other things I happened upon in my search for materials.

What I had to work with...

I did some braiding and pinning, added some O rings and found a kilt pin for a clasp and voila!

Perfect for New Years with a black minidress and some red buffalo check plaid to mix things up.

Isn't the toadstool brooch cute?

Dorothea Barth Jorgensen is one of my favorite models. She's been on all the major runways and has landed some pretty big campaigns, and she's only 19 years old. She brings an ineffable freshness to all her photos, something which could be described as a youthful naivete mixed with enigmatic sophistication. To top it off, she also designs her own clothing. I'd love to meet her.
